Natural England has found that the English countryside receives a massive ten million visits per year from fieldsports enthusiasts.
These numbers were recorded as part of the fifth annual report from NE measuring people’s engagement with the countryside. Fishing generates yet another 14 million visits. BASC chairman Alan Jarrett said that the organisation was pleased to see fieldsports included in the survey, and added that shooters “help to shape and improve the countryside. The conservation benefits of shooting are well documented. The latest research shows shoot providers spend a quarter of a billion pounds on conservation each year, generating work which is equivalent to 16,000 full-time conservation jobs.”
