Bringing Back The Grey Partridge

The GWCT has released the results of a three-year long investigation into techniques for encouraging the English partridge back into its native home.

A practical result of the scientific study has been a series of guidelines, giving the best methods of re-establishing grey partridges in areas where they are either scarce or have vanished altogether.

The study found that the most successful releasing method for the bird was fostering young to barren wild birds, alongside releasing autumn coveys to supplement the number wild adults left from previous years’ of re-establishment programmes.

For a copy of the guidelines, contact the GWCT on 01425 651013 or email lferguson@gct.org.uk.
