Gamekeeper found guilty

Keeper George Mutch has been found guilty of killing a goshawk and setting traps to illegally capture more on an estate in Aberdeenshire.

It has been reported that a goshawk and buzzard were also taken in 2012. A controversial piece of evidence has been key in the court case: hidden camera footage obtained by the RSPB. One of the first time such evidence has been successfully used in Scotland. The Scottish Gamekeepers’ Association, who have banned Mutch as a member, oppose the vigilante behavior, but have pointed out that it was wrong for individuals “from one particular profession” to be unknowingly filmed in their place of work. Mutch will be sentenced next month.
